Detroit Trip by Becca Rickard

Fellowship went to a whole new level over an entire weekend in Detroit, Michigan at
Taylor McCarty’s house. It was a fabulous weekend that started, for some of us, one day early. My car
got to Detroit Thursday night and we decided that we were starving. So we made a 2 AM run to the
nearest taco bell, but the drive through was the only part open. Then to our dismay, they only do two
separate orders per car which means we had to make multiple trips around the drive through. After
making the second round through the drive through we noticed behind us were Taylor’s mom and
Grandma. They definitely had the right idea that night. Taco Bell is the best!! The next day we woke up
ready for everything Detroit. We started the day at the pawn shop where they film Hardcore Pawn. The
door guard trolled Kira and made her put away her camera and five minutes later said, “Girl! You can
have your camera. I was just messing with you.” After we left, we spotted one of the cast members of
the show and got a picture with him. We then drove into Detroit and spent a ton of time finding parking
because it was opening day at Comerica Park. The entire day was spent experiencing Detroit through
food, food and more food!! I ate my weight in food this weekend, but I don’t regret it for a minute. We
had lunch at the New/Old Parthenon which was awesome! I love my Greek food. Then we went to a
fabulous Greek bakery and ate more food! Next stop on our tour was the Ford museum. They had
amazing pieces of history like the car Kennedy was assassinated in and Rosa Parks’s bus. By this time,
we were all exhausted so we concluded with the gift shop and then headed home. Once home it was
NAPTIME!! During my nap, the other groups arrived and we all had dinner which included sandwiches,
salad, pizza, and so much more food!!

I think weekend trips like this are essential in getting brothers to bond with each other on a
much deeper level. I became much closer with a lot of the new pledges and even brothers who haven’t
yet had the chance to get to know. Mainly, this weekend was fantastic and it marked the first time I
watched the Sandlot. Which is a huge milestone in my life and it is now my favorite movie of all time.
CHAW!!!
