Elections Meeting

4/22/2014

This is probably one of the most uncomfortable meetings to every sit through for the whole semester. It is the longest meeting, and unless there is pizza provided (thank god there was this time) you can hear everyone’s stomach grumble and whining from the peanut gallery.

But there are some redeeming factors. You get to experience how the fraternity will change for the better. You get to hear the ambitions of the brothers, and how the newly elected executive board plan to answer to our inquiries.

Their speeches are a great way to hear what the nominees have to say about what they wish to improve upon the position. My favorite part though is Q and A. The nominees are put on the hot seat and honestly do a great job thinking on the spot. For the past 4 semesters as a brother, I have to say I am very impressed. I don’t think I have ever seen someone trip up, or draw a blank during this part of elections. All the nominees have composure and know what to say.

And now endorsements. This part is a little silly, but really important. I understand standing up for someone you believe in, but I find that this part of elections is where a lot of the votes can swing. Yes, this section is 100% biased, but it is a way to hear from the other brothers how they think the nominees will run the position if elected. Endorsements can be very influential. But keep it to a minimum guys; it gets crazy when there are 30 endorsements for one position.

And the finale! The big reveal. Congrats to all the new exec members and great job to all the nominees.

So good luck to the new executive board.
