Harvest Hoedown by Erin DiCamillo

Halloween in State College is a big deal, as many of you know. But how did
you spend yours? I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Harvest Hoedown at
Our Lady of Victory Church, helping out with Halloween activities for the Second
Mile Youth. Let me tell you, it was so much fun! My group, in my opinion had the
most awesome game there! At our station we strung mini donuts to a string and
the kids who participated raced against each other to see who could eat the donut
faster without using their hands. You would be surprised at how fast some of the
kids could complete the activity! Nick and Brittany also ran a pretty sweet game too.
There own creation of pin the tail on the donkey but changed it to “pin the nose on
the jack-o-lantern”.
The best part of the experience however was getting to know some new
people involved with Alpha Phi Omega. I really got to know Sami and Brianna who
are now neophytes! I can’t forget however, that boy that could dance like Michael
Jackson. He had some of the best moves I have ever seen! When I asked where he
learned, he told me that at home he just gets himself moving whenever he hears a
song. After talking to him, I took home a great message: “Whatever you put your
mind too, you will succeed”. Overall, Harvest Hoedown was a great project for a
Sunday, because it let me relax and have fun but also do service to children of the
community.
