The Centre County Women’s Resource Center is a non-profit organization located in
downtown State College that provides free services to women and men who have been victims
of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Every holiday season they send out cards
asking for donations, it is their biggest fundraiser. The APO brothers got to help out this year
thanks to Katelyn Molinaro who contacted them. It was a small group but a fun project!
Katelyn, Abby, and I drove to Foxdale Village, a local nursing home, where the card stuffing
event took place. We formed a quite efficient assembly line and stuffed over 4,000 cards in an
hour and a half! We were rewarded with delicious cookies and other treats when we were
finished (always a good incentive).
It is small service projects like this one that I really enjoy. As the three of us stuffed cards
we talked about everything from movies, to books, to travel, to school. We eventually got on
the topic of finding APO and all three of us agreed that joining APO was one of the best
decisions we have made in college. APO gave us a home and a purpose at Penn State and
changed our lives for the better. I’m sure we are not alone when we say that. Service is a huge
part of our fraternity, but friendship is just as important. I’m glad I’ve found both in APO.
