Making cards for soldiers abroad is probably one of the most meaningful service events for me that I’ve ever been to. As a child growing up, I didn’t really understand the point of it when it was done in school, but when I moved across town and my neighbor was a Vietnam War Veteran, that changed my perspective dramatically. I was horrified by many of the stories I had heard, and now anything that involves veterans and current members of the armed forces means much more to me than it did before. Many times those who serve our country don’t receive the proper recognition they truly deserve, and we need to be very thankful to them for protecting our country and keeping the civilians as safe as possible. I think it’s great that APO does many things throughout the year recognizing veterans and current members of the armed forces as it is very important to show them how thankful we are for their service.
