Having only been around that Shaver’s Creek area once before, I was looking forward to going to the Maple Harvest Festival. When we first arrived, we were unsure of where the festival was actually taking place. After a few minutes of asking around, we took a nature trail from the parking lot past the bridges above flowing water and finally to the place of the event. After checking in, we were assigned to work the small restaurant serving pancakes. Although it was very cold, we were able to meet a lot of new people from different organizations and had a great time. I was specifically tasked with handling the drinks such as coffee and hot chocolate. After several runs to the kitchen for constant refills on coffee we were able to adequately provide hot coffee for every one on a cold spring morning. It was probably one of the best service events I have ever gone to because it truly brought the community around the State College area and provided great activities involving the production of maple syrup.
