I never realized how close campus was to such a historical landmark.  There was so much property that had to be cared for, I can see why the staff would need all of the volunteers they could get.  The amount of brush and sticks that had to be removed was unfathomable, but it was easier when there were two or three of us working together.

The staff was very, very friendly.  They told us about some of the history while we worked, and didn’t mind when I took a break to eat my sandwich.  I accidentally slept through lunch.  The more questions we asked, the more they insisted on giving us a tour of the mansion.  Unfortunately, I had a previous engagement and couldn’t stay, but I am very excited to go back and learn more.  I would definitely be willing to volunteer for them another time, especially if they force me to take a brownie home with me again!
