Recruiting, becoming a big as a neophyte by Tyler Jung

In the beginning of this semester, I spent many hours at the involvement fair and

recruitment information sessions. Meeting potential pledges and telling them about APO actually

really made me think back why I joined this organization in the first place. While I did look for a

close group of friends that I could call my friends at Penn State, I also wanted to contribute to the

brotherhood, local and Penn State community. Meeting the pledges that I actually talked to at the

involvement fair at information sessions made me feel that I have given them a good influence in

their lives and inspired them to get involved with community service. By the end of recruitment,

we had a really big pledge class. Being one of 21 pledge class, it was really great to see that APO

is bigger and bigger by semesters go by.

During my pledging process, and beginning of the semester as a brother without any

leadership position within the brotherhood, I have partially felt that I was not as engaged with

the brotherhood unlike other brothers. I also had two jobs and other commitments that made me

feel the same way, until I got myself a little. Some of my pledge brothers did not get a little but I

feel that having Adam as my little has made me get more involved with APO and I definitely

have made a new close relationship with someone that I did not even know last semester.

Working a service project, making a paddle and getting food together, I definitely got to devote

myself in APO, especially with the Athena family. (ALL HAIL ATHENIANS AHWOO!)

I hope my fellow brothers definitely get themselves come out to recruitment events and if

they don't have a little yet, definitely get a little to remind themselves why they joined APO in

the first place, and find a new special relationship.
